The stock markets are closed on national holidays. However, on the day of Diwali, a one-hour time window is opened for Muhurat Trading.
Typically, this period is during the evening and people prefer buying stocks as a token of Goddess Lakshmi.

In India, business owners and stock brokers started their new year with Diwali. The history of Muhurat trading spans back to more than 6 decades.
It was started at the BSE in 1957. It was subsequently adopted by the NSE in 1992.

Muhurat Trading will be conducted on November 12, 2023 (Sunday).
The Muhurat Trading time, 2023 for both BSE and NSE is as follows:
- Pre-open: 6:00 to 6:08 PM
- Muhurat Trading: 6:15 to 7:15 PM
- Post-close: 7:30 to 7:38 PM
- Market Close: 7:40 PM
